AL SADI & I Years ago, Al Sadi and I shared a room beneath a cold gray foreign sky, and we shared bread and tea heated on a blue tiled stove as we sought to understand a language neither of us knew. Now Al Sadi and I march to different bands - he for his country's strongman, I for Uncle Sam. And as I sit in darkness, I see his happy face, and wonder what has brought us to this mutual disgrace. Now this one, I like. It gives off the scent of understanding. But after breaking bread, how is it that we can still be breaking each other's head? Sometimes the insanity of humanity makes me crazy. Man-kind. Is the very word oxymoronic? But each day I get up and look for something wonderful on earth, and I usually find it in watching the animals, wandering around in the outdoors, and reading good poetry. Thank you for this one. |
