Sea-Surge In the harbor I perceive A sailing ship prepare to leave. As she turns to face the sea, Her figurehead looks out at me. Lovely lady, made of wood, Looks so real I almost could Think that I can hear her sigh, Musing on the miles gone by. Pretty face with hair a-curl. Does she represent a girl Someone loved and hoped to keep Close beside him on the deep? She courts the wind; fears the reef, Afraid her ship will come to grief. Riding where the wild waves cream. Is she just a sailor's dream? As I watch the tack she'll take, Gray mists swirling, hide her wake. She is out of sight now, so, Reluctantly, I turn to go, But I hear the buoy toll. Feel a sea-surge in my soul! Betty Lou Hebert [This message has been edited by Trillium (edited 07-24-2001).] |

Very nicely written I have always wondered what the woman was called. Is she a sailors dream? Does she move about the ship and protect her men? Sure she does!!! Do not fear going forward slowly, Fear only standing still. [This message has been edited by shadow974 (edited 07-24-2001).] |

shadow974: I guess the figurehead must have been a composite of many sailor's dreams, as they came in so many styles. Blonde, brunette and redheads! Thanks for commenting. Betty Lou Hebert |

VAS: Thanks. It does move one to watch a sailing ship leave harbor and see the figurehead staring out to sea. Or maybe it's just something that affects me! Betty Lou Hebert |
