I am still posting for my dad until the 23rd.

We'll Leave A Light On

This must be where we move on
Another night we try to be strong
It's been the hardest days we've ever been through
Now, today makes seven years we've been crying for you...

With no real last words to tell you goodbye
We still held onto you tight as you closed your eyes
But if you should ever find your way back alone
Don't you ever believe that we're not home...

Because we'll always keep a light on for you
So bright heaven will see it too
And if you should ever miss us being away
Then you'll know where our broken hearts stay...

And we still pass by that empty rocking chair
In the hope that someday we'll see you sitting there
We'll be praying beside it for what used to be
So at times you'll find us there on our knees...

So, if we never pass you on the street again
Then let God hold your hands until we can
And there will always be the endless tears
Because the hardest part is wanting you here...

We will always keep a light on for you
So bright heaven will see it too
If in a hundred years it's still burning through
Just know you're family will never quit waiting for you...

Have you ever known the color grey when the nighttime finds you weak
I have, I've walked that road each time; that's where my angel sleeps

Beautiful poem and quite a tribute of your love.

Do not fear going forward slowly,
Fear only standing still.

Perhaps I am a little silly, but when I write of my father, I do believe he is guiding my hand. He brings me back certain memories to share with others, and in that way, his gifts never end.  I like this Saunni, and I appreciate that you, too, feel for your father in this way, and share him with us as you have been doing.

Thank you for that.

This is such a sweet verse Saunni, glad you can remember your father this way.
Mine died over 15 years ago, never wrote him a poem though, maybe I should sometime, for he too was a very nice man.
Thanks for sharing.

Very lovely indeed, such a beautiful depiction of the love you have in this.  Keep it strong and it will last a lifetime

I have to agree with Sunshine. . . when I've written of my own Father, it was like I could hear him. . .

So too it seems with you and with others. . . know that they are always with you. . . and that their spirit moves through you. . .

Wonderful my friend. . . a gift from your heart. . .

This is so touching. I lost my mother and the light is always on for her too. Thank you for putting my thoughts into words

Saunni
What a wonderful piece of writing about a man who obviously meant the world to you.  How easily I could relate as I have been without my father for two years now and sometimes when I go into his shed I still feel him there.  I hold onto my memories with all my might so I'll never forget him.  I'm sure you do the same.  Take care......Sue

When a dearly loved one is gone it certainly leaves a huge hole in the life of the ones left behind.   You expressed this so very well with your words here. I love the positiveness of leaving the light on ...a nice touch!
