Traveling northbound From the Sunshine state Headed home , swiftly I glide. Through heat ghosts escaping From tar bubbles breaking In the roads of shale, they hide Spiney pines along the roadside Clumps of Pampas grass wave Bidding a "So long, See Ya!" salute To travelers along the way Judging navigation by the soil I witness the sandy scene Unfold to redclay masses of dirt To hearty fields of green The soil turns black as pitch Making everything stand out fresh The crops surrender to vegetable stands Springing up to roadside best I ride in music blared anticipation In search of the heavenly sign Azalea blooms have disappeared Choked out by kudzu vines The giant wayside leafy monsters Swallowing the roadside debris I move onward, towards clapboard barns Popping up in pastures green Upwards, I drive into cavernous tunnels Of Bending Old Timer trees The heat now freshly filtered out With sweet honeysuckle breezes The valleys give way to higher ground Where my passionflower grows wild And the Lady's Slipper, gracefully lilts Down the pathways of brushwood briar Leading to the mystical tops Of Cherokee hallowed ground Where they whisper in the silent mornings Where they cry to the night wind's clouds Where children of the mist, give way To ghostly hide and seek I'm near the Gateway! I see the sign! "Welcome To Tennessee". [This message has been edited by rwood (edited 07-21-2001).] |

*sighs contently* Well captured, Madam Wood! I've lived in northeastern Tennessee and southwestern Virginia since I was an infant, with a few years' exception when I joined the Navy. You've made me want to take a trip down to the Cherokee reserve now *L* RIGHT NOW hehe Thank you very much for the song of home! Teddy |

Mishtheelf: How sweet! I'm glad it hit home to you. I'm a Navy Brat myself. Traveled all over...but Tennessee is my heartland. Thanks so much for reading! Seymour: Thanks again. Your comments are much appreciated! Trillium: I'm so glad I could take you with me! It's an honor for sure! Sincerely, Rwood |
