Desert Passage Virginia Salter basalt knobs rise out of straw-yellow grasses, vie for space among olive-drab sage miles and miles of desert growth reigns ‘neath pastel shades of blue edged with cottony billows high rock faces stand above the desert floor ribbon of road trims the land along river’s banks lake after lake, of Columbia formed, teem with life, bring same to land’s yield © August 4, 2000 |
