NINTY HAPPY BIRTHDAYS If she had known she would live this long there would have been changes Soon to be 90 and so many family and friends have left this earthly home So many changes it makes her wonder at what has been written on life's pages That the past went so quickly and the future so short she feels so alone Parents long gone, siblings only two from many still live and breathe Her soul-mate of 60 or so years slipped away when she wasn't looking How could he leave with first his mind then his body, her left to grieve Their son and daughter raised to expect nothing given without working As of today she has been given 9 Grandchildren, 24 Great's and 6 Great Great's And the only wish for this birthday is to see and touch each and every one So many new and beautiful lives started when these two became lifetime mates Memories grow dim, names and faces don't fit, pictures fade, Father-time won She has become so frail, says life isn't fair in these twilight years Too many things she can't do, places she can't go, nothing to look forward to So many hours alone wondering if any care, depending on others, hiding her tears But 90 is lucky and the days can be sunny, we need a Matriarch like you Nothing ever seems to end as we planned, so enjoy the good, leave the bad When she tells tales of olden days gone by she may have a laugh or even look sad But at this stage in life she earned the right to share the past and let the memories flow We will all get together to celebrate your special day with a picnic Many you haven't seen in at least five years so we will play catch-up So many you will remember as scrubbed-faced little darlings who grew up too quick We will share smiles and tears, start new memories to hold and touch Happy birthday, dear Mother. Please don't get ready to leave yet! |

yes, Happy Birthday to your mom!! this is wonderfully and powerfully said, woven with just her sentiments in many places, I'm sure we gathered together for my grandma's 90th birthday, she'd out lived 3 husbands and one son, by then a very short while later, her eldest died, then her youngest a short time after that, having out-lived all her husbands and all her sons, no matter the grand kids and daughter's in law, she felt alone as if no one left and no reason to live she lived to be almost 94, but it was a lot longer than she wanted cherish all your moments and enjoy your reunion and her birthday, God bless you all!!! |

A big thank you to all of you for bringing this up for my mom...she is on vacation with my children...or is that my children are on vacation and my mom is working away from home I know when she returns she'll thank you herself...btw Grandma's 90th birthday party was wonderful...all of her children, grand-children, great grand children and great great grandchildren with the exception of only two...it's a birthday we'll all remember for her~ [This message has been edited by Butterflies_dont_cry (edited 08-07-2001).] |

faterider, great and have a wonderful 21st! Sven, thanks and it was a great day Mark B, I'm with you! 90 is so old. Titia, this lady never drove and to me has had a pampered life. vickey, thank you. My Butterfly kid, thanks! What a surprise to find all of these responses to this poem. And it was a great vacation right after the B-party. What a wonderful day! Elise, thank you Martie, she didn't see it. I'm afraid she wouldn't like the way I see her life. Sunshine, I lost my mom several years ago, so my mother-in-law is all I have left. Mysteria, thank you. |
