Where Grasses Grow There is a world where grasses grow That's like no other place I know. Where endless miles of prairie run Like tawny seas, beneath the sun. It's here the birds nest on the ground, Because there are no trees around And as the night begins to pass, They rise by thousands from the grass. Each feathered throat burst into song. At intervals, the whole day long, They sing; a joyous thing to hear, That falls like blessing on my ear. Abundant prairie dogs are found In villages, built underground. They scamper back and forth between Their burrow holes. If danger's seen, They bark alarm and then they hide Until it's safe to come outside. Ground squirrels, rabbits and badgers too, Live in prairie, to name a few And in the short-grass, bison roam. The pronghorn antelope's at home. The prairie flowers in the spring Are like a garden and they bring Their vibrant colors to the land. A medley made by nature's hand. Then there's that great expanse of sky. Domain of birds and butterfly. The moon's so big it fills the night With shimmering and golden light And just before I go to sleep, I make a promise I will keep, To spend more time and get to know This prairie world, where grasses grow! it is another world... I will digress but try not to bore you too badly.. I grew up in hill country...and my first visit to the praries was one of adjustment... I have since learned to look for just the things you describe..and to appreciate the beauty in them as wellas the hills and trees I am so fond of. Very nicely painted.. thanks for the view!!! |

This is just a beautiful description of a beautiful countryside. I really can feel your longing to spend more time there, being an opencountrygirl myself. Titia A rose is a rose is a rose...I guess... |

Cpat Hair: Thanks for your comments and I know what you mean about adjusting to the prairie. I have mostly lived in treed country, except for some years in high desert country of Nevada. The first time I went to the prairie, it made me nervous and seemed too big and open. On subsequest visits I learned to really love it. Betty Lou Hebert |

Titia: Thank you! My mother spent part of her youth in the prairie country of Montana and always told me such fascinating stories about it, I knew one day, I had to go see it for myself. Betty Lou Hebert |
