Five Thousand Mornings Five thousand mornings started out like every one before A hurried cup of coffee before running out the door A kiss good-bye, a wave while pulling out to meet the train A shuttle to Manhattan to a plaque etched with your name Another cup of coffee to get started with the day A glance at photographs of family proudly on display Tokens of the years together following a dream Of peace of home and family, career that you esteem Just one small glance brings back the memories of a special day When someone shot this photo as you laughed at toddler’s play The mind in just a second reproduces all the joy Wrought from the sweetness of the words of just one little boy The moments now recalling all the treasures there at home Give satisfaction knowing that you’ll never be alone. The mind is cleared to now begin the tasks assigned your name Five thousand others all around you doing just the same Young lovers anxious for the days to pass so they can meet A sports fan with a season ticket in his favorite seat A widow who’s devoted to her job and to the firm A young man starting out with vision of what he will earn But all have photos tucked inside a wallet or a drawer Or framed and standing on their desk of one that they adore All kinds of thoughts in morning hours before the work begins All kinds of gentle hearts with love and honor deep within High up above the streets inside a tower made of glass The fate of Tuesday morning, written in an hourglass For those who sat secure and calm with friends in their surround Five thousand mornings suddenly came crashing to the ground For those of us who watched in horror, wept the tears of pain Our spirits touched so deeply, now will never be the same For those portrayed in photographs displayed with love and pride By strangers from the Middle East were torn apart inside Five thousand mornings started out with just a morning kiss Five thousand mornings ended in the depths of an abyss |

Yes, Lizzie ... and now we are deep into the abyss of mourning~ It's just not the same as it was on all those yesterdays ... and the sorrows of tomorrow are yet to be unearthed~ Thank you for caring and sharing. *Hugs* ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |

Elizabeth, Fascinating tribute. My heart still trembles for those poor innocent souls. Respond to my call and let the waves of my heart fill your life with the wonders of love |

Such a tender and sad poem, but focussed on the LIFE of the thousands, their families, their friends, more than on the last moment. A very compassionate poem. |

Millions of mournings. The innocence of these victims is brought home by their last minute E-mails and cell phone calls to Loved ones to tell them of their Love. Fitting tribute. |

Oh, Elizabeth, this captured the loss so completely. All those lives, forever changed or ended. What a tragedy. |

wow.. you are definately right... we are now into an abyss in which the US is standing as one, and working together to get through it. Wave your flags proudly.. as we are Americans.. and I am still proud to be one... A Life without Love, is no life at all... |

You captured everything with such clarity. Very good write. I just hope that as a country we all remember how precious life is and try to love each other even more than before. You never know when something like this shall occur and take us from one another. |

I can see why you have many friends here. Your work is outstanding. Very well done. What light through yon window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun. |

Liz, the personification in the poem gave me shivers, and in the deep pit of mourning, the 5,000 mornings become millions of mournings to those that were left behind. You touched my heart with this one, and I thank you for the 5,000 that are unable to thank you for writing this if you do not mind. Hugs. ~* If you want a rainbow, sometimes you just have to put up with a little rain *~ |
