A little frayed, a little faded
a little worn
Still it proudly flies for
all to see
day in, day out, a soft
reminder
of who we are
Do you even notice?
Do you remmeber?
As a child, hand over
your heart
Words said by rote...
"I pledge allegiance"
ALLEGIANCE
What a word!
Whats it mean?
Say it
"I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE
TO THE FLAG
AND TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
AND TO THE REPUBLIC FOR WHICH IT STANDS
ONE NATION
UNDER GOD
WITH LIBERTY
AND JUSTICE
FOR ALL"

Doesnt that say it all?
For all...for all
Liberty and justice...not for one
FOR ALL
And still she flies
A little frayed, a little faded,
a little worn.

I was so proud 2 weeks ago when my five year old grand daughter said the "Pledge of Allegiance". It brought back memories of when I was a child.

I wrote this because I was angry...angry at the number of people who suddenly decided they had to have a flag...and then got irate and ugly because our store didnt have any...isnt it sad it takes something as devastating as this to make someone willing to fly our nations symbol?

Wonderfully penned Paula, and a great reminder to all.

Yes, the flag is suddenly very important to us all.  My husband lovingly made a flag pole years ago, that would be there to raise our flag on all those important days.  Unfortunately, he also lovingly planted a pine tree nearby and now that he is gone the tree has grown and I cannot get the flag up past it.  If he were here he would cut down that tree for that flag.  Joyce
