Drought This summer has grown tired: hills reflecting the sky in monochrome carbon, the thick, rancid stink of yet another new fire dogs the slothful air. I sleep with it in my nostrils, suck it in with reluctant lungs; folks here are so casual - the price of a dry year, dear! New territory to me, and I’m disgusted, winter’s rains won’t come soon enough to save this blackened forest’s edge, far from my ocean, my rejuvenating sea, calling louder than ever. © 2001 Corinne Bailey [This message has been edited by Corinne (edited 09-08-2001).] |

Yes...I recall the fires....I lived in the valleys, and saw the horizons flame.... but Corinne...you WRITE it with desire that would want to quench the same.... well done! |
