Listening to every heart

What’s the Difference?

she stands golden in sunlight
a tilt of head, she hears me
I talk to her of many plans
her face says, please feed me

she listens quietly to words
and then mine balm her soul
sometimes, I tell her dreams
she motions “reach all goals”

receiving hugs and kisses
but wary still she be
of all who cross her threshold
or stands beneath her trees

now to pack and plan, must I
a trip soon shall I take
she wonders at how man
so simple, desperate makes

each and every modest move
for things that must be done
as for every rib, a groove
for every Eve, a Sun

here, there is a parallel
two lives that take and breathe
one who still expects
one who has long grieved

one who is an animal
anticipates give and take
one who is the human
needing day’s slice of cake

each are golden in their time
not fearing great disaster
as either one give all, and more,
for each revere a Master
