Eddie the Egret

by Michael

The water sighs and churns
as it moves past my dangling feet.
A snowy white egret I tamed
stands nearby,
watching my every movement.

Gulls soar on a steady breeze
and often dive for fish,
just a few feet from where I sit.
Like the egret,
they’ve come to understand
that I am not a threat,
but live in harmony with them
and my surroundings.

The day wanes
as thunderheads build
and come onshore,
threatening rain.

My friendly egret takes to wing,
making his way home,
lazily flapping five foot wings.

He’ll return again tomorrow
to spend another afternoon with me.
He’ll patiently wait as I cast a net
in search of fish to feed him.
He has the patience
that only nature truly knows
and he is teaching that to me.

Michael--Nature has so many lessons, if we look for them..I loved the lesson in this.  Enjoyed this poem very much, dear friend!

there I go again, one of the 7 deadly, envious of your wonderful blessing of an egret spending time with you...what a wonderful tale and poem...relaxing, even with a storm on the edge, there is peace in your heart...I could feel it.

Michael, sounds like your days are being spent in a way I would love to   Guess I will just have to be content with tending flowers every day.

The road goes on forever, and the stories never end...
