I told the shrink everything. No time for pregnant pauses which pass for reflection and not wanting the story dangling at less than subtle watch peek time. I gave her the Readers Digest version. I told her how jealous I am when seeing two men leaning on trucks in eased and idle conversation in parking lots on the sides of roads, while I always in a hurry. I told her how over the years I've had the urge to slap mostly older men who, because of their station of either authority or age engaged me in pointless chatter which led nowhere. I didn't tell her how I finish people's senteneces, how my loneliness howls unheard outside my depth in which it's echo resounds as surely as the growls of a pending volcano, or grates the profound roar of deeply buried plates whose waring preceeds an earthquake. I didn't tell her of the dark slick walls of deceit and fear which keep me trapped or how I tire of battling on several fronts while maintaining the appearance of dignified calm. She didn't get to hear my sadness in realizing I'll never know the calm peace of a porched rocking chair in pleasant temperatures with a view of lake, mountain and or ocean, or how I Love and hate all men. But I'll bet she knew. |

Liked this verse especially. I used to see a therapist, until I realized I could talk to my dog for free...and he doesn't own a watch. lol Great write. |

I was right on both accounts ........... |

Ah.... very impressive work... truly a pleasure to read and ponder. The usual powerful images mixed to deliver a message that is easily taken as personal by the reader... good stuff man... good stuff |

"I didn't tell her how I finish people's senteneces, how my loneliness howls unheard outside my depth in which it's echo resounds as surely as the growls of a pending volcano, or grates the profound roar of deeply buried plates whose waring preceeds an earthquake." This is the best definition of lonliness I think I have ever heard. Sandra |

Excellent poetry and images in this piece Richard. I am sure she did know all that was unspoken as do perhaps others; they are called "friends"! Lonliness is an empty place when you see a glass as half empty instead of half full. Here's to cool temperatures, rocking chairs, porches, mountains, and ocean breezes. ![]() *~If you can't say anything nice about someone, don't say anything at all*~ |
