He listened The grief shown on face Plastered from other times Painted anew with the words Divisions Strained comforting exchanged With coyote wariness Remembering Denouncing son for embarrassing threatened stature in small town public knowing he was different Alone now In the ways and days of before Grief drives home in blow After strike That all the plaster in the world Can’t fill some holes Later… When his turn came to go I painted on my face of grief And explored the voids left By it all |

There's at least as much to ponder here for the reader, Ron... The last stanza, especially. Many lessons and truths in life -- not all of them light ones. -MVS "It's all in the details -- the Big Picture always takes care of itself." |

Cpat, "I painted on my grief face" I really know what you mean here. And I know I did it for others, not for me 'cuz I really didn't care. Sad, dark, truthful. ME |

I painted on my face of grief I have to agree with ME, this line stood out for me also. You write so personally that it's often difficult for me to suspend the belief that you have experienced your subject matter. A father should teach many things, this isn't one of them. There's a whole world available to shame us...parents should be apart from it. I relate. |

Sadly, I can empathize with nearly every line of this work, Cpat... Well done, indeed. |

The feeling is so deep, I wanted to glance away, as if to avoid more pain. Chris Life is not measured by breaths you take, but by moments that take your breath away. |

God ... what are we as humans doing to our children.... so many things in life to put us down and out.... Have learned in life that I can choose new family for my support, and If I choose to continue a relationship with blood family then its as they are... whatever that may means to me.. sometimes that means smile and breath LOL ~Connie~ |
