Roll On I tried to think of a way to express my compassion for the living, shy of one more Hallmark card or wreath of dead flowers, without having to attend your services. Everyone else was there, including the escort you requested; an impressive sight - twelve women on Harleys at eleven o’clock on a Friday morning. No one wore black, again, your wish, instead, periwinkle dominated; I thought of a suffused summer sea, from my hiding place across the street. Ours was an odd friendship of opposites, making the loss all the more acute. There was no one else like you, there will be no one else like you for me. I’m no good at funerals, but I believe you’ve forgiven me because from behind my tree, I saw you turn, wink, and fade into the crowd. © 2001 Corinne Bailey |

Oh, Corinne~ Just too cool. Poignant, sensitive and understood. 'Ours was an odd friendship of opposites, making the loss all the more acute. There was no one else like you, there will be no one else like you for me.' When someone leaves that much of an impression on you ... at least you deserve that 'wink'~ *Hugs* ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |

Corinne--With just a few words you gave your friend a personality, and the wink seems very appropriate and real. |

Corinne, you always write so very impressively, but there are times, such as this, that you write just a tad better than impressive... and roll on to remarkable! |

again, your unique sight has shown us something that we might have missed. . . great job. . . -------------------------------------------------------- To the world, you may only be one person. But to one person, you may be the world. |

You're right - a funeral isn't necessarily where you say your 'good-bye' - it's much more private than that.. Your words ring true as always, Corinne.. |

Corinne - You see things so well! I can only imagine your response to the 'wink' - Could it have been, "Darlin', if you only knew."? As you can see, I doubt that I will ever forget that line. You are simply wonderful at doing that. |
