On Wings of Love

So afraid to give myself completely
I always held back,
locked away in an iron cage,
gilded with gold

So easy to pretend
it wasn’t a prison,
but a home
The lock present,
not to keep me in,
but to keep others out

So certain the bars
weren’t my confinement
but my freedom…
from hurt and betrayal,
lies and deceit

Then you came
and opened my eyes
to the truth around me
For the first time,
I saw clearly
the boundaries I had created

You released the latch
and swung open the door,
leaving me to ease my own way out

The open space scared me
But your smile
~Oh, your smile~
encouraged me to spread my wings
and fly to you:
the only home I’d ever need

And for the first time
~I soared~

This is lovely and inspiring, Tara.  Gosh, how I relate - especially to the first few verses.  I'm saving it my library to read often.  I only hope that I can grow wings like this someday.

May you always soar on the winds of love

This is lovely Tara, and I most certainly can identify with this.  You have not just learned how to fly, but you have learned how to soar.......may the winds carry you in love.  *s*

Beautiful words your have woven Tara...and
my thanks to a very special friend that made
sure that these words found me...Your words
have been shared and touched the hearts of
two that felt them Tara...there is not

Marge, I'm winging it and flying high!

Jwesley and Sven, thank you and that's exactly what I'm planning on doing!

Melissa Honeybee, keep the faith, we're all destined to sprout wings and fly.

Sandra, thank you..it's certainly been a long journey since those dark days last fall.

Butterflies_dont_cry, I'm so glad you enjoyed these lines...I'm even happier that you know from firsthand experience exactly what I'm writing about. Is there any better feeling than when love gives you wings?

Thank you, everyone, for taking the time to read this poem.  I'm glad you enjoyed your visit!
