Afternoon Chord (I)

Draped in yellow sleeves
of the birch tree
              afternoon sends
              her last moments off.

              Branches lift
pushing  dovetail shadows of sky
              into a deeper gray.

From the porch
I   glimpse rain
              as  wind pricks her finger
              on a dark spindle of pine.

             Time weeps
             and like Autumn, I shimmer
             in cold sorrow --
                              waiting for you.



               EVENING CHORD (II)

              Night dangles her  hair
over the moon’s white brow.
as branches lattice the wind.

               Tinges of leaf  fray
to brown wings --tatting pink lace
and love disrobes slowly
               .
               untangling  the long sash of time
dipping bare thought
into a pool of shadows.

Evergreen ripples
outward in its clean scent
of  memory
and I succumb to sleep,

             to the soft sound
             of your footsteps returning
             home from the city.

This is just fantastic, Gwendrina...the imagery is breathtaking...very impressive...I truly have enjoyed the poems of yours that I've read thus far...great work!
