He was a visitor Not touristing. For his Grandmother Was rooted from a long lineage Of medieval hill dwellers How he wished his father Had never left the vine soil Rich with both the riping old and new. Walled in ancient splendor He first saw her upon balcony hanging out the blankets of spun wool. The sheets of sunbright white She was magnificent in fresh light While he watched her sing in quiet Harmony. With the warm breezes of Tingling sun. He could not bring Himself to interrupt the vision. She then ate a slice of baked bread Still wafting fresh from her pedestal Bits of butter were smeared From the corners of her mouth He hid at the corner of the building Wishing to be the tissue for her lips Then she was gone. Inside he strained To see at least a shadow of her beauty As he removed himself from the corner The stuccoed walls seemed rough enough To scale. As he would now have the Courage to do so. In his attempt to see. Then she came through the heavy door Passing him drunken in the scent Of her perfume. She carried canvas And palette. He turned to follow secretly She placed herself in the shade So as to not allow the paint to dry Too quick. And began an empty canvas Stroking greens and golds and blues He was amazed at her talent. For the Palazzo came to life before his eyes He was mesmerized by her dark hair Swept up as tendrils necked her nape He took one step forward towards her Nigh, but a young man crossed the grass Before him. Greeting her by Name, Amelia. Sweeping her in his arms with kiss He lost himself in envy. But realized The young man held a prize, a vintage That he would never taste. But still He drank in what could have been The Tuscany of him. [This message has been edited by rwood (edited 08-25-2001).] |

Brought back scenes, indirectly, of the best film ever made -- period: "Cinema Paradiso." A most lovely description, Regina. (Makes me want to continue the story into a better ending for the poor fellow...) -MVS "It's all in the details -- the Big Picture always takes care of itself." |

Sandra: Thank you sweet Lady. Your words are always appreciated. Marge: I'm so glad you liked that part. I'm role playing again. The male perspective is a hard reach. But I think we know what's pretty! Ava: LOL! They may not let us board a plane. Without straight jackets. Thank you for being my ever constant accepting companion! Mark: Please do! Not only would I be honored, but this ending came out of nowhere. If anyone could come up with a sequel to this Poor fellow. He needs happiness. ![]() |

Like Mark I was reminded of a film, mine was Stealing Beauty. Beautifully penned, wonderful soft images, rich and breathtaking "the blizzard of the world has crossed the threshold and it has overturned |

HI RW, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS ONE! The scenery, detail and flow tantalizes the reader with their beauty. Just like the bystander in the poem, one is drawn in from the beginning and held captive until the end. Splendid piece!! Wendy |
