This is a tribute to Harry The wanderer of the streets He is not insane Just twice removed Once from society Once from luxury He is not poor As some assume He is not old As his yellowing long beard Is deceiving He is not homeless No one knows where he lives He prefers it that way His most prized possession Is his bicycle Which he rides or walks it Every day of the year For 7 years now I've watched him Cross our streets and walks I've heard through the grapevine He has cancer As his journey will soon end For he is refusing treatment All the town's people Bid him hello As small town folk will do He always nods in silence As he moves right along His pedaling is more strained now He walks his bike A little more slowly each day And still, I believe He has the nicest legs I've ever seen I think he holds a secret to life How I would ride him around If he would let me When his bicycle Becomes parked in final life ride I imagine heaven Will have a parade A legion of angels will toot their horns As Harry crosses the finish line Coasting into the streets of gold Riding hands free. His quiet rides will be missed by many. As he has somehow pedalled into our hearts. [This message has been edited by rwood (edited 08-25-2001).] |

it's not always those who are the loudest who find their way into our hearts. . . wonderfully done Regina. . . ------------------------------------------------------- To the world, you may only be one person. But to one person, you may be the world. |

Very nice tribute. Nice you have taken time to notice him and found a certain respect for him. Most people let the Harry's of the world pass by. Sometimes the small things in life leave the biggest impression. Nicely written. Deb |

Rex: Thank you! Sven: So true. He has said so much in his silent contentment. Seymour: Thank you sir! ![]() VAS: Thanks Virginia. I appreciate your words! Paladin: So glad it caught you. It means a lot to try to convey it well. Blooming Rose: Yes, so many Harry's. But he really is a loner. I can't help but wonder how he feels so complete by himself. Marge: Thank you as always. I appreciate you so. Sincerely, Regina |

Regina This was such a touching piece of writing that honestly brought a tear to my eye. I lost my father to cancer and this made me think of him. That you for your beautiful words and your kind, selfless soul. Take care......Sue Suetang |

Cinematic in its visual presentation and emotional suggestion... just goes to show "The Ripple Effect" in action... -MVS "It's all in the details -- the Big Picture always takes care of itself." |

Sometimes the quiet riders before us speak the loudest message to our hearts. Harry's Bicycle is a wonderful tribute to one of these quiet shouters. My favorite part: "The wanderer of the streets He is not insane Just twice removed Once from society Once from luxury" [This message has been edited by Midnitesun (edited 08-27-2001).] |

Sue: God bless you sweet Lady. Thank you for your replies. Many hugs to you. Ethome: Thank you for even reading once. Much appreciation! Faterider: Yes, the power of verse touches in so many ways. Thank you for you kind words! Mark: Through his undisturbing he has. Thank you for reading. Ava: Hugs to you. So glad to have you too! Titia: Thank you so much. My hope for him runs deep. shadow974: I appreciate your comments so kind. midnitesun: So many misunderstood. I'm glad you connected. Nothing wrong with that. The quiet ones still speak reams. If ohers would take the time to listen. Sincerely, Regina |
