~In The Distance~ There is distance in the space between us ... Now feeling chained by what used to set us free Doubt and discontent only add to the misery And I can't see you anymore ... Love's light slowly fades ... into the distance There are lies in the space between us Trust and faith have passed us by ... To the point we cant even look each other in the eye I don't think I believe in love anymore ... Could it be out there for me ... somewhere in the distance There is anger in the space between us Compromise has lost its grace Resentment grows and takes its place There is a rage burning deep inside of me ... From its hold ... I need to find distance There is pain in the space between us Old wounds and old scars ... forever bleed Did we mistake love for an aching need I need release from this agony ... Healing is somewhere ... in the distance There is loss in the space between us Patience and passion lost to living a lie Hearts break ... dreams fade ... then die There has already been so much taken ... And still my past follows me ... into the distance There is emptiness in the space between us In my heart there's just vacancy Loneliness keeps me constant company With nothing left to hold us here ... It's safe to say ... we wont go the distance There is silence in the space between us The words to save this ... just cant be found Listen close ... as love leaves ... it makes no sound And now I can hear someone else calling to me ... Perhaps there is something more ... off in the distance Janet Marie *repost at the request of a friend ... thank you for remembering this one. May you find your dreams in the distance. *with some changes/rewrites from original post in open 8 Feels like Im dancin with truth and wisdom Precious rhythm you are my guide These days are sacred, my heart is humble Oh warrior show me thy light [This message has been edited by Janet Marie (edited 08-23-2001).] |

in the distance lies many things... this poem is lovely...sad recognition of the distance time and lack of attention to a relationship can create... very well done... very well done indeed. |

Hugs you..haven't forgotten ya..just waking up here...I slept forever yesterday and feel like Rip Van Winkle...sigh. And this poem? Just a few of the words that I understood too well. As YOU KNOW...but? Methinks a vacation would help tremendously!!! Winkie wink! |

JanetMarie~ I was immediately sent thumbing through Rod McKuen's 'Come To Me In Silence' ... And under his 'A Fist Full Of Snow' was this thought - Have we been apart so long that there's no getting back ? Was there a curve we didn't go around together, one embankment one of us did not foresee ? Worse - has someone else been hiking down your highway ?' How poignant your write~ *Hugs* ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |

Sometimes space and distance helps us breathe and see our real need. Other times it becomes a place of no return. Good poem. I see meaning in seeking relief, yet needing truth. Deb |

JM this reminded me of a very painful divorce I had, and a friend bought the book Marge spoke of, Rod McKuen's 'Come To Me In Silence' so I would get to the place of anger then forgiveness, lady...you covered every single emotion going in that poem, and I commend you for a fantastic piece of poetry - never mind that it stuck a nerve with me - by the way, consider yourself hugged! ~*Homepage*~ http://www.mysteria-poetry.cityslide.com/contents/contents.cfm/722155 |

We can grow together... or we can grow apart... Either way, grow we must - and live life - You've captured it well, JM.. |

Listen close ... as love leaves ... it makes no sound This poem is filled with beauty and sadness and very well written - this line is particularly wrenching in its truth. |

I can feel the tumbleweeds rolling down the lonely highway of your poem, snagging sensitive pockets of emotion and vulnerabilities... I find that distance tends to be a better thing when it is observed in the rear view mirror rather than the windshield... most of the time... A haunting write, JM. There is loss in the space between us Patience and passion lost to living a lie Hearts break ... dreams fade ... then die There has already been so much taken ... And still my past follows me ... into the distance When going back is impossible, staying put unrealistic, moving on...beyond comprehension. You've written it all here. Glad you reposted this. |

What's this???????? I do believe that "In The Distance", I hear the thunder of a thousand kicking up the dust on the plains of yesterday. Maybe if you LISTEN real intently you can make out the sound of just one hoof trodding the parched soil. Yeppers...........I do believe that it is getting closer. (ride the white buffalo) You always did know how to pen the emotions and the thoughts in poetic grace and beauty didn't you? I am glad you reposted and thank you to the one who asked for this to come about again. |

"and now I can hear someone else calling to me." Seems like when a relationship is going well we don't hear these other voices and when it starts to deteriorate we hope we will hear another voice...James |

a wedge does so increase the distance, continually...a perfect rendition of what happens once it's begun I love the hope that is also held in this poem that perhaps, somewhere in the distance, love will find a home |

There is pain in the space between us Old wounds and old scars ... forever bleed Did we mistake love for an aching need I need release from this agony ... Healing is somewhere ... in the distance Hi Janet Marie This is poetry that touches reality as well as the reader's heart and spirit with powerful clarity and feeling. You have captured the essence of two estranged beings with expertise and artistic sensitivity. I can only marvel at your perception. It's a topic I think so many of us can relate to. thank you Wendy |

Oh Janet! How you have captured those feelings. It seems that when everything is going well love gets taken for granted....but...when that distance comes along, wow! it just seems to kill everything that's alive. I'm sure I remember this from before.....However, I'm so glad you reposted it is a work of art when it comes to expressing those empty feelings...... excellent!! My dear poet pet! Reminds me of this one I wrote that describes the reasons why these things can happen''' Miss the times when we were younger and the love we did invest and of all the love I kicked around I thought ours was the best. But I was never there for you and it drew us far from close. I was in sales and tellin tales and drinkin patron's toasts. I showed no favor for your choice and you spent your time alone, now you're gone and time moves on I know I did you wrong. Chorus: All the good times I could find took me far away from you and left you trapped inside while I was seeking dues. Now my lonely heart and mind roam round this empty soul and the lesson lingers overtime and I'm wishin you were home. I call you in the early morning to draw the past to mind. A brave new me, a change complete, I offer to your mind. You talk to me and my heart flips, I beg you back again. A concerned woman you see me and I can't seem to win. It's plain and simple who's to fault and your worries shake me off but you turn heartache into hoping and I'm glad to hear you talk. Chorus rep: Through all the years you held my name and stated your place with style and in the stress you'd address the absence of my smile. But your hopes went sadly thin I destroyed your cause. I didn't see your needs then I sought my own applause. Your love finally turned to ice it took a long long time. Now I live with the sacrifice of pushing you from my mind. Bridge: I remember our first home a simple captured thrill. and our driven dreams where the future gleams with the needs that all must fill and the late nights laying back talking after love and the fire there that burnt the air was the flame of all first loves. Now I've turned to other means you say your heart wont mend. So I push on into somewhere and I call you now and then. But when it's very late at night and I turn to share your soul. I cry softly to myself while another plays your role. So the good times ruined my time and I know I'm still alone beneath the scars I need your heart and I'm wishin you were home. Have a nice day and write on my dear poet lady!! |
