He's Seen a Lot of Sights Spurs strapped on his high-top boots, Butterflies and buckin' chutes. A fever gets into a cowboy's veins- Drivin' hard, and ridin' fast- Knowin' that his youth can't last. He'll ride till only "used-to-be" remains. The butterflies he feels inside- Above the chute, his legs spread wide... He drops his rope across a buckin' bull. He nods his head, "It's tight enuff"! A double wrap, then takes a tuck- He nods, the gate man gives the rope a pull. He's doomed to roam the open road- And ride as much as he gets throwed. That he'll never reach the top, he's well aware. But still he has to rodeo- The only life he'll ever know... Is "wide spots in the road", and County Fairs. Don't tell him that he's gettin' old- For in his dreams he sees the Gold, Ten head of stock beneath Las Vegas lights. The NFR has been his dream- Since the day he turned sixteen... And on his way he's seen a lot of sights. |

Few of us will ever do great things, but we can do what we love well. Excellent expression, John! |

This is really good! My little niece has the cutest saying about riding. "That Thang'll buck you off!" Very nice description of the rodeo man. It is a whole other world. And a brave one. Thank you for sharing. Sincerely, Regina |

Gunslinger, I watch the rodeo on tv with my eyes closed! I can't imagine a man getting on a bull or horse that only wants to buck them off. But your poem was "right on" and you did a great job. ME |
