Open Letter To My Shadow

how is it you can
trace my tears
combined pile
of salted fears
and I do not have
to speak one word
in my heart
I know you’ve heard
it is true
there is no end
time can never exclude
you as my friend
proudly I wear
that title as do you
in soul to you
I am bonded to
I placed my hand
in yours in trust
you galvanized me
against all rust
not many a person
a true friend I can call
your shadow is imprinted
on my heart’s wall
the breath of this friendship
will never arrest
your friendship the greatest gift
I possess
