Tails of an old ships cat

I had a long talk with Arthur
He is an extraordinary cat
There is no one with whom Id rather
Enjoy a long fireside chat.

He knows a lot about sea birds
And the various types of rats
He finds people rather absurd
Much  purr-ferring his fellow cats

He will happily show you his medals
One for each rat that he caught
And red one for scratching a rebel
In a far off Colonial port

And many a sad feline maiden
Was waved goodbye with a paw
And dogs with scars were laden
With a lightening flash of the claw

He is old and stiff and grey now
Whiskers drooping and pads that are sore
Faltering now, is that deep Miaow
That once called :
"Who's for a run ashore?"

He still listens and if anything stirs
He quickly inspects the room
Most carefully beneath the stairs
And in the corner near the broom

But for now all is quite
He may perhaps enjoy a cigar
And tell of his days as a sailor
Tall tails from lands afar

arthur
please do not refer to this as DOGerrel
he would be most annoyed

Let your feline be not annoyed;
tell him for me? I purr-fectly enjoyed...

Poor old Arthur....
I should rather enjoy sitting for awhile,
I'll bet he could really make me smile!
Just listening to his tails..
I mean, er, tales.
And of the ship that he once sailed.

I enjoyed it...really!!

Oh yes now I have the satisfaction of reading a good poem...a friend of mine has a sail boat and has sailed almost halfway around the world with her dog...Seadog...I'm sure he would have some stories to tell...James

I enjoyed the story,  Could picture "Arthur" the cat sitting on your lap while you exchange stories of the sea. marty
