I studied in silence The ancient one Leaning at precarious angles over waters edge Gnarled trunk hovers In defiance of gravity Anchored by roots Wriggled deeply Between stones and loose Earth Begging fish It seems to repose In shadows so as not to be Without the company Of other life Stretching As I rise My own angles lessen And roots are remembered Without begging for A stronger hold Or fewer stones |

Cpat--The tree indeed can live through many world changes...lovely metaphore for strength and endurance. |

There is a tree that stretches out over a pond that I visit...reaching westerly over the waters... just as you describe... you didn't tell me you were coming for a visit... |

Gnarled trunk hovers In defiance of gravity Anchored by roots Wriggled deeply Between stones and loose Earth Those words have the power, the wealth is endless. Enjoyed, for sure! Willie [This message has been edited by WRBreezin (edited 08-16-2001).] |

I didn't do a syllable count but the breaks give this piece the feel of a haiku. It also has a reverance for life that I appreciate. Good work. |

A tree is a tree is a tree is a tree, the fourth dimension being what it is, but you have put this one in its place nicely. Thanks, I like it a bunch. "As soon as the generals and the politicos can predict the motions of your mind, lose it." Wendell Berry |

It is hard not to behold a tree like that with reverence...I enjoyed the peaceful perspective. ~Krista ![]() "Poetry and Hums aren't things which you get, they're things which get you. |
