A Noble Man I’ve built you up into my ideal, combined in you all the qualities dreamt of in girlish fairy tales: with certain vulnerabilities of the heart, a clever mind, flesh immune to malady, forged together, tungsten strength. Men and women alike gravitate toward you – with your easy smiles and gentle ways, a sword in your hand means safekeeping, a chivalrous stand, holding on to honor. And love? A welcoming renaissance in your arms. My knight? Perhaps. In reality, with armor clanking and creaking, perfection, imperfect. © 2001 Corinne Bailey |

Corinne--You describe so well how easy it is to make someone into something of our choosing and forget that they are human. |

The higher the pedestal... the harder the fall. It is said that a man looks at a woman initially and thinks she would be wonderful to be with for the rest of his life... never changing. Whereas a woman looks at a man and thinks... how wonderful it would be to spend the rest of her life making him into what she wants him to be. I guess that is what 'dreams' are for. :-) |

Hey Core, I remember this one. Did you revise? Nice to see a familiar face (although this is the first time I've seen your face - ha ha) Melissa |

we all want the armour, a knight to save us, and they sometimes stand naked before us, just as vulnerable as we are. |

Cor...The errant knight. Cervantes would have liked this. Bob |

Thank you all, for commenting. Yes, we do sometimes have a tendancy to put people on pedestals, to want them to provide what we feel lacking in our lives. And yet, it isn't so bad to discover that these people are just people, isn't so bad at all... Thanks again! Corinne |

well we can all use an oil can now and then...and we all make noise when others would prefer quiet occaisionally... nicely done... and a lot of truths to take from the perspective... |

Yanno, Cor I believe you have smacked me in the face with this one, and inspired something I truly wish I had the concentration to write at this time. I love this and its message. I hope you're well. |

Excellent write Corinne. Not everything is as we perceive it to be. Loved the last stanza. |
