Artificial Moon

One night I sat in glowing light
My face a ghostly guise
Reflecting from a screen of white
Which stared into my eyes

An iridescence fell upon
The smoothness of my hand
White fingers tapped on waiting keys
Which laid in my command

A lonely sight, this opal face
In artificial beams
Which took the moon’s romantic place
In visions of my dreams

My heartbeat’s throb was never heard
Nor thoughts that slowly fed
The fountains of unspoken words
That gathered in my head

Just I alone with glassy moon
And fingertips of white
Which clicked the moments, breaking gloom
And silence of the night

How could a monitor entrance
A dreamer such as I
Who only ever sought romance
In depths of starry sky

Somehow the artificial moon
Had opened up a world
Of other hearts whom it consumed
As poetry unfurled

And so the plastic came alive
The glassy phrases spoke
My ghostly face would well survive
The barriers it broke

My intimate and dearest thought
In verses flowed with ease
As visions danced in poems wrought
By tapping of the keys

In dark of night I found a dream
Unseen in starry skies
For you appeared upon the screen
And flashed into my eyes

I read the poetry that tapped
From out your midnight room
With phrases I was warmly wrapped
In silver lighted moon
