these words are all that I have
they’re all I have to speak with
my voice is silent on the page
and my actions cannot be shown

when you look at my words
do you hear what they say?
do you hear the song of one
who knows the expressions
of love and light?

when you look at my words
do you see what they say?
do you see the actions of one
who has done much in his
time here with you?

are you deaf to these words?
preferring to hear only the things
that you want to hear?

are you blind to these actions?
preferring to see only the things
that you want to see?

or are you one that actually
takes the time to read the words
and knows what is being said
and what is being shown
by me through these words
rather than by one who knows
not this heart

I speak not of the gossips
or those who whisper
in dark corners
for there will always be
those who do these things

I speak of those who have read
but who have not heard or seen
what is being said by the words
those who are blind and deaf

or are they?

do they hear what my heart says?
or, do they hear what their own heart says
to them through my words?

do they see what my actions are?
or, do they see what their own actions are
as caused by my own?

do I speak the words of my heart
or do I speak the words of their heart

when they look at me, who do they see?
do they see me?

or do they see themselves?

Hmmm...I think sometimes I try too hard to see the writer behind the words.  Your thoughts and feelings have mostly been an ease for me to understand.  Is that the result of your comminication or my receiving, I don't know.  Just know I enjoy reading you...always.

Oh....you ask such deep difficult questions my friend.....

your words
echo in my heart
and I know
it's true
that I have seen
the heart of you
through
the words
you sing so true

Thank you ....dear friend

"When one sees
but never saw,
touches,
but never feels,
hears,
but only sound,
one knows life,
but doesn't live.
But when one loves,
it's with his soul he sees,
his heart he touches,
and his life he hears.
It's all the glory,
and the sorrow,
the joy's,
and the pain,
the fullness of everything
that has ever been...." and I think you definitely have the sight, my friend, and those who don't see, hear and feel that in your words are missing a greater part of life.

Some people have a gift, they don't have to "see" to believe, hear or understand others. Now the question is who are they? Great poem, great questions!

I think the important thing for a writer, a poet is to write for themselves. Just put it together and don't worry about who thinks what because you cannot and I mean, cannot please everyone. Poetry is often considered "from the heart" and much of it is, much of it. BUT it is also a craft, one that can be learned. Anyone here can write about anything and sometimes we don't know if it's real or fantasy. A good writer can make you believe anything. Isn't that what writing is, to invoke feeling? I know it is for me.

You made a good point, but I'm afraid in the final analysis, there will be those who will misinterpret our words, our heart and that's just life, that's the way it is but rumor is rumor and do any of us really know what's behind the words?

All we can do is be true to ourselves and in that, we become better writers and hopefully, those who truly know us will really be all that matters in the long run.

okay, i promise i will pay attention!!

seriously though, i understand your concerns but perhaps part of the job of an effective writer is to allow the reader to witness and explore himself through the speaker's words??

a good write..i enjoyed

I think you put your finger on it here, yes.  It not just a matter of poetry, but of life.  To zip through a page of poetry postings without understanding is one thing, but to zip through people without understanding is something else.  I don't know what's worse, not being seen, or being seen as something you're not.  Good work.

Sven,

I tell you what I SEE...i see a remarkable
poet whose work i grow to love more and more
as time passes. i see a heart full of love
but also pain, who tries his best to convey
it all through his words and does a damn
good job! just what i see my friend

take care.

You have the uncanny ability to put your heart on the screen for all to see. I wonder does she see your heart or does she only see words.
What I personally see in your writings is a man who not only loves the woman but loves life.

Ricky Nelson sang a song once "Garden Party" and my favorite line is "you can't please everyone, so you got to please yourself"

In life, this is selfish ? or maybe not, sometimes we have to take care of ourselves before we can truly be seen for who we are, or want to be.  Good poem

I see a man before me
poet with his pen
writes from his heart
I see his soul within

I see the writing on the wall
and poets tales sometimes grim
But ahh I see the heart of you
I see you my friend sweet Sven
