the break 1961 one-pieced, strap to shoulder, no cut outs, streamed to the line hip bones barely hidden under dark of suit, slight bulge of buttocks on thin frame step one, step up grasp handles sun bearing down on determination step two, no weight to carry up but resolve steps three, four straightening of young spine, a lift of chin, a breast of wind whips golden wisps of hair trepidation in grasp of handle stepping five, six, seven then on, till sanded board meets flat of arched feet deep breath resolving to solve jittering thoughts that won’t listen to a moment’s notice of stop, stop listen cheers and voices no jeers now choices made, this is the time to set pace to step and step raise arms then fly, curve, bend, to blue breaking water with fingertips, up palm to wrist, forearm to upper and head breaks larger hole clean and mean in design of dream this the dive of a life’s time, cold hitting hard once immersed, then reborn into sun’s light gasping from chill’s thrill of beating one’s own odds of fear… and yet not showing off |

That moment pause in the air, of arching over, and then KNOWING it was right, the fall perfect, water rushing...very gentle smile..you done good |
