In economics class we sat restlessly and listened to our teacher drone on about how resources are finite and should be allocated properly You nudged over and whispered "So is my time." You then confided without any hint of hesitation nor apology that you would judge whether someone is worthy to be a friend before you would even think of investing in that person I guess I should feel flattered Obviously I had been awarded Quality Certification by you just that your concept was alien and i feel uncomfortable to be friends with someone who deems me to be of worth before accepting the person i am |

I often wonder why someone picks me as a friend...what is their motivation...why did they pick me? James |

This is very nicely put! I agree with you, if someone has to investigate me before deeming me a friend, they are not worth it! Friends just appear, You only have to work on it after you have them. Cindi |

Refreshing read. Smoothly flowing, well said, well put, the theme running thoughout, trickling down like water till the deep thought of your conclusion. Thought provoking and true, this piece. Refreshing read. jwesley |

Friendship just happens...I don't see it as a decision. Powerful write Faterider...your conflicted emotions came across well. ~Krista "Poetry and Hums aren't things which you get, they're things which get you. |

there are few who really know what a "friend" is anymore, believe me. I know what it means and have been blessed to have them in my life! " I walked beside the evening sea And dreamed a dream that could not be" George William Curtis" |

fantastic, this has such a familiar ring to it...just as one shouldn't be set aside because of outside perceptions, nor should the opposite be true--books have one cover and many pages |

faterider: I felt compelled to express an opinion here... I understand from where you are coming and agree, in part, with that emotion and questioning regarding issues of judgement and expectations, for those are very important and valid concerns. However, I also can relate to the other side due to trust issues and bad past experiences with having been burned by people before... I guess it ultimately comes down to the motive and the attitude of the other person and of course your intuition regarding them... definitely not an easy prediciment, to be sure, but one worthy of serious reflection rather than "button-pushed" reaction, for both sides, I believe, have merit, and ultimately, only you can decide after honest consideration... -MVS "When you tell the Truth, you never have to remember what you just said." |

As a former student of economics, I found this exceptional and humorous. Numbers are necessary, though not sufficient. The way you've melded two fields of thought is impressive. [This message has been edited by Duncan (edited 08-07-2001).] |

This literally raised my eyebrows. I like that. Don't be sorry for what you feel, or even what you write ... whether you share with others those feelings or words, and whether you control and understand them should be the concern if there is any. I think in this, you are questioning, and there is certainly NOTHING wrong in that ... don't let it get away with you and try to stay objective (though not detached). I just wrote something that ended up stunning me upon reread, so don't feel alone in that "Gosh, do I really feel this way and have I any right to write about it, and then go and post it on a public forum???" war. Been there. Doing that. Chin up. |

hank you for your responses...this was a hard one to write as i sat grappling with myself...am i right to feel this way? should i be like her, assess my friends and only spend time with those that are deemed worthy friends?? ..I actually enjoyed the responses as much as the initial posting..and no, faterider...I believe you should take a chance because what is of worth is what is on the inside of a person and not what is seen and or first assessed. Many times, those I thought I would like the least or have the least in common with, were to become my truest of friends...a very well thought out posting. ~Softsmiles ~Wynter "The worst prison would be a closed heart". |

Mark, thank you for speaking out and for your thoughtful reply. i admit i have never thought that way before and i wish to thank you for offering another perspective and for keeping my toes firmly in my shoes welcome to passions, duncan...thank you for your compliment and i await to read your work howpeculiar, thank you for your reassurance. i feel your advice came timely for i seem to be able to cut to my core and express my deep-down emotions. sometimes i hesitate to pen down exactly how i feel because of this image i wish to project. your comment reminded me that "to thy own self be true" wynter, it is true that i feel uncomfortable. however i will take your advice since all of us has multiple layers and i shouldn't reject her because of one dimension i feel i don't like. will attempt to remain friends with her and seek for similarities... dee...now you made me smile..i'm glad i have achieved that, in your opinion..thank you for your reply |
