This Handful Of Ashes Whispers of yesterday thunder in my soul Eyes of lightening strike realms of memory Salted droplets flood in hallow eyes of coal As this handful of ashes shelter ... my path to eternity Turmoils of forgotten blood blossom in morning dew Cries of ancient sorrows sing in summer breeze Ancestral wisdom blazes in rays of fiery hue As this handful of ashes breeds ... my tradition to seize Tranquity soars on the white wings of satin birch Strength of passage breathes within jeweled cascades Visions of knowledge illuminate this midnight search As this handful of ashes grows ... embers of betrayal fades Spirits of life dance on rings of forgotten years Eyes of the eagle trace pure trails of tomorrow A river of peace captures all the native tears As this handful of ashes paints ... portraits of native sorrow Mark Christopher I have found in you ... a reflection of me ... and a path to the peace I have sought. I felt as if this were the Trail of Tears. Very spiritual, and earthly at the same time. Fantastic read. Sincerely, Regina |

It is so sad to reflect on the past, but in order to ready for the future, the process is a necessary one. In all the insight and hindsight of this poem this is the most spell-binding: "Spirits of life dance on rings of forgotten years Eyes of the eagle trace pure trails of tomorrow A river of peace captures all the native tears As this handful of ashes paints ... portraits of native sorrow" Well said, and extremely well written. ~To see real beauty you must look with your heart~ |

Beautiful words, Mark, feeling sad, though. As always, your words touch me. And, in reference to your quote above, so does your heart, not just your pen. Sandra |

Mark- Almost forgot...do you have e-mail these days? If you do, e-mail me...need to ask you a question regarding my website. I just updated it, and have included some of your poetry again, and I'd love to include a picture as well, as I have pics of the other poet friends on the page. Drop me a line if you can. When you get a chance, check out the site. Vicky's Maze Of Muses I'd love to know what you think of it, and don't forget to sign the guest book. ![]() hugs, ~vicky "...until you have read the verse on his heart, you have not truely met the poet." -vlraynes [This message has been edited by vlraynes (edited 08-06-2001).] |

Well of course it is okay and don't be surprised if you get a lesson or two from this tired ole cowboy. Afterall, I too have Cherokee in me and besides, if it impresses the maidens then well....you know I will try harder. Of course the real reason is that I am finding much peace and understanding in it all and that is a REALLY GOOD THING. adaladudi nihi!!! didanilvhisdi aya hnadvga nunadvnv hia tsalagi, hiano visvi vhnai nvwadohiyada. |
