Skeptical to say the least, I packed my bag that night Read the theme of the week, I was "the world’s light" Loading the bus with apprehension, yet excitement in the air We gathered round the tiny chapel to say a farewell prayer "May God Bless you pilgrims, and may your journey be safe" "May the lord grace you, and may you grow in your faith" I snickered as I left the room, this was simply a vacation Not knowing at the point in time, this trip was my salvation Fourteen hours later as I stepped off to the street I was greeted with the smiles of the millions I would meet Countries united in ways that I had only dreamed All had become one in god, at least that’s how it seemed The first night ignited a fire, within my very heart Flames spread throughout my soul, flickered thoughts to start Hearts entwined though prayer and song, journeys had begun With a cross made to the holy spirit, god the father, and his son Day by day we grew stronger, a million children of one creator Drank the words of our holy father, often through a translator In words that brought tears to my eyes, the closest man to Christ Made me proud to be a Christian, made me proud that I’d suffice With the warmth of love spread through my veins, and power in my fists Gave me no doubt in mind nor heart that our almighty God exists One final evening of candlelight, and vespers echoing through the air Gave us pilgrims the feeling that someone’s soul was really there Awakened to the early sound of raindrops christening our site We quickly learned that this storm was a ever-losing fight Miraculously, the clouds parted, and gave way to the sun Heavens shone upon us ‘til the papal mass was done Then one by one we marched away, left memories behind But I will always keep with me the hope that I did find I left home with doubt and distrust within him and with me But God has come through in the end, God has helped me see *This poem is not to preach of my religion, everyone has different beliefs. This poem is to tell you how I spent the last 10 days of my life! |

Lisa, this is really beautiful! It sounds like you had a really great time and that it was also worthwhile. Great work! P.S. Good to see you back! God bless America, my home sweet home. [This message has been edited by Elizabeth (07-30-2002 11:57 PM).] |

This was nice, I'm just wondering why you didn't capitalize "god" throughout most of the poem. It sounded like a great time, you've captured it well. ~Carly "Feelings are not supposed to be logical. Dangerous is the man who has rationalized his emotions." |

I really like this poem. I actually know of one of the churches near me that went. My church was going to go but we didn't have enough people interested. I envy you for being able to go! I would have loved to have that chance. But there is always 2005 when the next one is. I'm glad to read that you got a lot out of your trip. ~*Grace*~ |
