I don’t remember how it was we met
Somewhere along the way,
you succeeded in catching my attention
And somewhere along the way,
I succeeded in sparking your interest

And so here I stand,
Not naked but honestly
And here you are,
Virtually fearless –
Which I attribute to your lack
of experience and it seems so fresh

For all of this
I am honored by your infatuation
And I embrace your optimism
And I indulge in the idea of you
someday being entangled in my arms
Such a welcomed investment

Half habitually I sexualize our friendship,
Half-heartedly I dismiss the thought
And I know that perhaps you can relate
So I’ll climb the latter, but never dive
So I’ll pretend that I want you over me
So I’ll reach for your hand,
but never actually touch skin

And so here I stand,
Still holding my breath
And here you are,
Still so dedicated –
Which I attribute to your understanding
of what it means to be a man

For all this
I am touched by your romanticism
And I anticipate your next move
And I crave the freedom to trace
the length of your body without feeling guilty
Such a stinging surprise

Wow, this is so much of what I'm seeing right now in my life. I really relate to this, minus the admiration. I'm still in the unappreciated, blind stage of things, but I do recognize the greatness of this poem. Very well written.

I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust.
