Santa Anna blows
Hot winds dry the salty air
I savor the warmth

Misty salty breeze
Hear the oceans's lullaby
Rocking me to sleep

Gathering seashells
Sand crabs dip beneath the sand
Small hands scoop them out

Full moon's right tonight
Grunion, right to run
Nighttime adventure

4 AM, fishermen
Stand waiting at end of pier
Hoping for a bite

Barracuda bites
Takes hook, with line gives fight
Applaud the victor

Smells of barbeque
Smoked fish permeate the air
As vendors entice

Seagulls circling
Looking for a tasty bite
Their cries, unnoticed

Foggy horizon
Morning sun, evaporates
Fishermen go home

Surfs up, the tides in
Surfers balance on their boards
With a wave, I watch

Beach towel and sun shades
I lie toasted on the beach
Possessed by sand and sea

California's dream
Is one that really still lives
In my memory

Loved the song, love this!

and the sun drips honey."

Songbird this is the same title of a poem that I have been working on for at least a year...I'm just playing around with some old memories when me and my friend Al Zurman did some motorcycling in California...so don't be surprised if one comes up with the same title...ha...might be a year from now though cause I'm just playing around with it having fun and memories...meanwhile I enjoyed this one...I lived in California for many years...James

You've painted so many wonderfully visual portraits throughout Songbird, very nicely done! I particularly enjoyed the grunion run.

Best wishes,
/Kit

Hi, I had to stop in and read, as I do spend most of my nights dreaming of returning to California. You did this beautifully. I really enjoyed the pictures painted here.

Thanks for all your replies. I lived the dream for over twenty some years, two blocks from Tamerack Beach, southern CA. Any surfers here will reconize that location. These are my best memories of my childhood, although I probally could think of many more.
