Today’s the Day Today’s the day my stripes unfurl And beam my stars around the world For all to see the meaning of A common brotherhood of love Today’s the day my colors wave O’er schoolhouse yard and soldier's grave Along the streets of freedom’s town On courthouse dome and White House crown Today’s the day to honor names Of those who served on ships and planes And those who met the battle call But would not ever let me fall A soldier’s pride in stars of white In folds of red a soldier’s plight In wind of glory flying free They share a common dignity Salute the red, the white, the blue I was defended just for you Salute the one who served with grace Within my folds a soldier's face Today we all bestow esteem On those who suffered for the dream And in the shadows of their trust We honor them who honored us Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (edited 05-28-2001).] |

Liz, this is perfect! You've written the flag here! We have a lot of flags of varying sizes in my neighborhood but it's so nice to step out to the street and see all the red, white and blue!!! |

Lizzie~ You've flown her proud colors for all to see~ In freedom's colors of dignity~ 'And in the shadows of their trust We honor them who honored us' Remembering those who fought so valiantly for freedom - gives them the honor they all deserve. Thank you for sharing this awesome write. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |

Our house is graced with a flag, every day. Some people think it should only be pulled out for special occasions... but a Veteran LIVES here... that's good enough! |

This is quite a delightful, patriotic piece. Well woven, full of wonderful tributes. Mine, written the day after the holiday, has a bit of mourning to it as not 'all' do honor the flag or its victors. Did you see it? It's "No Longer a Child, Yet." I'll go check, and see if I need to be embarassed because perhaps you've already commented. |
