Awakening A little under a year has passed Since you’ve came into my life. I thought how lucky I am To have found a new friend Your humor made me laugh And your caring ways helped me through. But now…you scare me. My delicate and hidden heart Is slowly beginning to awaken. I think of you at random times Throughout my passing day It comforts me, makes me smile. My stomach flutters when I hear Your voice filled with laughter. I long to feel your lips in a soft sweet kiss. I promised myself I would be safe Keep my heart locked far away Safe from the hurt and tears That comes from love gone bad. But your gentle ways move me And even though my heart tries To deny it, a spark has begun It’s slow revival, it’s awakening. At times I want to just want to run Despite the urge I can’t… I don’t want to. So I’m forced to face my fears And try to overcome these feelings. So be patient with me my dear. I’m treading on well known territory That has only lead to pain and heartbreak. Help me see love is more than painful goodbyes Help me understand how to trust you Like a lover should.. completely . Take my timid outstretched hand and And show me what I so badly need to learn. How not to be afraid of your love. Of how not to be afraid of me. The last line wraps it up very nicely. We are generally scared of our selves and the feelings that lurk within. "I am not now that which I have been." |
