eyeglasses, eyeglasses
lying on a mirror
reflecting all I cannot see
in this moment here

all I have
is what might have been
etched in my memory
along with thoughts
what could occur
in my time to be

what might have been
what could occur
the essence of the now
is naught but dimming blur
the history of my hours spent
I’m feeling so unsure

was it a dream
laced with nightmares
woven in
or were the nightmares
interrupted by the dreams
that might have been

I look at my hands
and wonder what they’ve done
I look at my feet
have they walked a thundered run?

all the fingers, all the toes
are full intact, that’s certain
will they have given, will they have walked
their path to final curtain

did toes lead and heels follow
did hands reach out with deeds
that kept the flow of river’s hands
from bogging in the reeds
