He sat within the corner, among the scattered crowd
With music soft and lovely but voices turned up loud
Drowning in his sorrow of tears that he had shed
As down he put a paper with which these words were said

It said; to you my darling, I know that you will grieve
As many, many times I too have done
But love has come a calling to me on this fine day
And finally again I’ve found the sun

Our years have been existed by habit and by hope
By dowry small which God with faith had given
But now I find it’s time to stretch and use my freedom wings
Believing in my heart, there’s more to liven

I’ve given all I thought I could with every passing year
But felt that everyday I came up short
If not for guilt, which held me back, I’d long ago have gone
But what’s a life when all around there’s naught?

But today I woke contented with a prophets words of hope
Which told me that the day had come for change
And though I felt quite frightened to fall from habits hold
I’ve gone to find my placement in a world that’s all so strange

So now I’m wandering somewhere in search of better way
Where future brings me more than sorrows pain
I’m sorry for the little note but all its words are true
I’ve gone to try and start my life again

Be it God or will that guides me, or love that holds me near
The many years of love I’m glad we had
Intentions they were honest as true as ocean blue
But the fruit we both called love turned slowly bad

Goodbye my once true darling, farewell and easy go
Seek joy and love which somewhere well does wait
Cry not for wasted pains of time when something seemed to change
Seek your place of need before too late

                    ----------

He felt the pain in every word, as tears they still did flow
Blamed her and he for letting true love die
Heard not the words she’d spoken when things just got too much
Until this day, until this note had said the last goodbye

With regret he stopped his sobbing excepting what was true
His wife of many years was up and gone
A prayer he said with sorry and heart much filled with pain
Just asking for forgiveness of a marriage that went wrong

A story of regret, and a sad song, indeed....

I have to agree with Sunshine....a very sad story and definitely a story of regret.

Yep, regrets are allways coming too late.
Nice write though.

You know, Rick, since you asked for forgiveness,

that was all it took.  For now, you are...

a good read, a hard write.
