The wolf will come on hearing the call,
Gliding alone over all different soil.
All he heard was one who was lost,
So hastening on, at whatever the cost.
Buried in legends of long time past
The ancient one knew when the die was cast.

The gamble of life is not a game,
For one walks not from the table, ever the same.
Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose,
How you accept is the way you choose.
When bitter tears steam down from the face,
The wolf will come upon the chase.

The thrill of the hunt is not his plan
He knows a soul needs a helping hand
The one so lost will hear a tune,
Of a lonely howl echoing off the moon.
All so cold, knowing of nothing to do,
Sitting on the pathway, unable to move

Exhausted with the burden of bitter pain,
Praying to dream peaceful once again.
Dropping in silence in troubled sleep,
Never knowing the wolf would curl in safety keep.
Warmth from the contact removed the chill,
As seeds were dropped, not needed to till.

Waking refreshed on the sunny morn,
To begin walking the path, feeling reborn.
Striding ahead with hand at the side,
Thinking a dream thought of a wolf which did glide.
Suddenly the troubles seemed not so tough
As the hand seemed to feel a very soft ruff.

Wolves are such interesting creatures. Much maligned I fear! I enjoyed your poem.

Logan,

I often write as Sisterwolf and I respect their society greatly, so this caught my attention.
May I ever so tenderly render this one thought: Sometimes rhyme gets in the way of
rhythm.
If you are a 'wolfman', you would enjoy Isshah's site. Go in search. She has a terrific wolf gallery.

Logan, I think this is a wonderful legend, which may indeed have some truth in it. You are a consummate storyteller.
