A smile and a tear
For another passing year,
Remembering the best from moments past
And with a spirit bold,
A new day to behold,
Creating one that's better than the last!

inot2B, as long as your perspective allows you to see the good in midst of "the bad", and as long as your attitude is one where you strive to do a little better each year with whatever you endeavor, then there is no reason for each new year not to be better than the last.  Thanks for reading and replying.

A sincere thank you, MEM...  a smile and mutual wish to you, as well.  Thanks for reading.

SEA, hope you guys celebrate it well.  Interesting that you mention birthday since this poem was a spontaneous write into an elderly lady's birthday card at work, many years ago...  Thanks for your comments.

Anthem, or resolution, Sandra?  I detect a hint of expectations not necessarily being met each year...?  Glad you enjoyed.

Thank you, Logan.  Simple can always become complex, if we choose to let it...

This is very beautiful. It reminds me of something I read yesterday about a man going to one of his friend's job promotion celebration and then attending another friend's wife's funeral on the same day. We all have our happy days and our sad days. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Walker -- thanks for the comments and glad you enjoyed.  Within every smile, a tear can be found, just as easily as a smile can be seen within every tear, as long as we choose to look for it...

makes you kind of realize how special life is and that you really shouldnt take it for granted and if you do put it behind you and begin another day in a new way
