Deep in the heart

0 posted 2001-07-06 12:23 PM

I always listen to my muse.
“Do not reveal me.”  my muse says,
“your teasing way does not amuse
and if that is not clear, what is?”

“Should I withhold inspiration?
Dry the ink on tip of your quill?
Your reward but perspiration?
Dry up your thoughts to nothing, nil?”

“Oh no,” I said, “Forgive me, please,
I thought it was you inspiring.
I never meant to taunt or tease
But I’ve never been retiring.”

“Okay,” said muse “ I shall forgive.
Your writing continues to live.”

Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write. Philip Sidney (1554-1586) Loving in Truth

Let not your muse so temperamental be...
point thy quill to her favor, see?
for a muses' ego is much employed
when to her satisfaction words are enjoyed...

Let not your muse harbor grief
sit back and poem some poetic relief
you will find she retains much amuse
thy pen shall flow brilliant, enthused...

Pleased as punch that you are not retiring. I would have had to report you to the Commandant. Bob
