In a corporeal internship...

It seems like so long ago...
Remember all the good times that we had?
Back then the days passed so slowly
Now they're gone, but how were we to know?
Through the clouds of memory I see:
(History)
Visions
Of adventures
That we shared
Yesterday
If we could just relive them...

Take me back to the days of youth
When living by whim was our only truth
Back to the times when things were new
To the days and the nights when there were things to do...
Now it seems like yesterday --
The times we shared as friends
Taking the moment for what it was
We thought it'd never end
Looking back I find it
So hard to believe
That we're getting older
Getting ready to leave...

Why must all things change so fast?
What would be lost if they remained the same?
The present becomes the past
Much too quickly -- tell me, why can't it last?
Despite my youth, I feel much to old
But I'll hold
Onto recollections
That will always be dear
At least that much will preserve...

Take me back to the days of youth
When living by whim was our only truth
Back to the times when things were new
To the days and the nights when there were things to do...
Now it seems like yesterday --
The times we shared as friends
Taking the moment for what it was
We thought it'd never end
Looking back I find it
So hard to believe
That we're getting older
Getting ready to leave...

I hope the dozen years which have passed since you wrote this have had some joy for you.

loved this Mark......
here is one I did like this......mine is much simpler than yours though   hope you like

Old Friends

Rainy day today…….
Radio down low…….then that song comes on
You know it, the one that triggers your heart
Puts it racing in reverse
Back to times with old friends
Younger days………….crazy days
Not a care in the world……except for what we’d be doing
And who’d be there
Innocence at the verge of enlightenment
So you turn it up………..loud
And for the length of the song
………….You’re gone……….
And as reality seeps back in
The smile stays on your lips
And the tear that slips quietly down your cheek
Gets carefully brushed away.

Ah Mark, so many days of youth to remember. Some days I would go all the way back to playing Robin Hood and Maid Marion with my friends in the street. Others, I would give anything to return to the days of madly dancing in the arms of a charming and excellent dancer.  Too many to remember, too many to forget.
Love this.

Of course, RS...  of course.  Ironically, I wrote this when I was 19 -- it was like a "flash-forward looking back".  I have always been fascinated with time and extremely nostalgic, but like everyone else I've ever met, joy comes and goes.  This was simply a somber reflection.  Thanks for reading it.

SEA, thank you so much for your poem -- it was very tender.  I especially enjoyed the last part of its phrasing and imagery regarding the tear -- how well I know that feeling, even if its internalized.  I'm glad you enjoyed this one, and as always, thank you for investing your time to read and reply.

I know what you mean, Sandra.  There are never "too many", though...  Memories, I think, are the most priceless and precious collection one can have, and depending on how well they were engrained, they can be relived again and again, better than any book, video, or song...  Thank you for pausing and contemplating.

Thank you, Ron -- just a wave in the flow of my life...
