I Know You

I know you.  You’re the one
I should have loved
so long ago.
You’re the one I didn’t see
and so I lived another life
and never knew
that what I missed
was you.

I know you
from all the things I never did.
And all the things I never said.
And all the dreams of all the things
I could have been and couldn’t do.
I know you.

I know you from a forgotten year
in a forgotten time
when, but for time,
I would have found you here.

And if I did not see you in the moon
or in the sun’s day shadowed noon
or in the wind’s blustery rhyme
or in the winter’s frost,
forgive me, the cost is mine.
I was lost.

So many things I could count undone,
unsaid, unseen, undreamed, unbegun,
too many for even two lives to do,
so let us begin with one.

You know me.
I am the one you never knew.
You are the one I didn’t love.

I am you.

this is wonderful writing.... it is heartfelt, succinct, vivid in imagery... the line breaks, the phrasing, all of it... excellent work!!

i just spent about 1/2 an hour at your website and will go back... very well done... the music is also excellent!! i'm very impressed and will go back and read more and enjoy the accompanying music...

did you write the music, too? are you a musician?

great stuff !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks for sharing....

Wynter -- thank you.  Written in one of my happier moods.

Doreen -- thank you.  I'm glad you enjoy my site.  Visit as often as you like; it's open to everyone.  Am I a musician?  Not in the sense that I play an instrument.  I only write it.  I think of myself as a poet, but I like writing music almost as much as poetry, which is beginning to be a problem.  The words don't match.  Thank you again.

Brad -- thank you also.  Regret is the word, I think.

Fancy -- you're making me laugh.  thank you.

Amazing write and music, mirror man.  Liked them both.  Regret is never easy to cope with, yet we all feel it at one time or another.  You describe it well.

Thank you all very much.

Sea: visit my site, and cry your eyes out.

Doreen: that would be a long explanation.  Email me, and I promise to bore you with technical trivia.
