Thank you all for the battles you fought
On foreign soil so we could be free
Thank you for giving up your life for freedom sought
That the highest price to pay you did it all for me

The very young made old in the blink of an eye
From what you did or saw or heard
Or the places in those lands where so many die
So many wars so many fights you fought without a word

As the bombs burst in the air or scar the land
The blood of all men soaked this earth
So many wars so much to fight for guided by invisible hand
All in the name of freedom but what is one life worth

Hear the screams of silence see into their very soul
Feel the pain of limbs torn away they forever changed
To keep us safe at home was their only goal
Where much more than our bodies are mamed

At dawns early light we could see the haunted faces
Of man after man living in his own private Hell
While death happens in unknown places
You fought so we in freedom could dwell

I pray that all the angels stay close to hold you
To keep your nightmares at bay and give you rest
So many from other lands have come as cities and states grew
You fought, died, then re-birth to make this land the best

Sunshine, today is such a "sad- happy" day it is hard to say how one feels.  As the years go by those feelings change.  Thank you for your words.

Lovely tribute to those who gave their lives for our freedom, M_E.  Thanks for sharing.

That's a very nice tribute to the 4th of July.
