Quiet of Midnight The quiet of midnight is peace for the mind The richness of silence and absence of time Alone with my feelings, if not for a star That ponders my eyes and my face from afar Just what are you thinking at this time of night? This glittering glow in an ocean of light One minuscule speck in the infinite space Still gazing and winking at my lonely face Never a wish have you twinkled my way Never a dream have you kindly displayed Why does such merriment gleam in your eye Interrupting my thoughts as I gaze at the sky? I was lost in my sorrow until you appeared And glimmered your little light down to this sphere Could you be attempting to beckon my eye To see the small wonders of life passing by? Your radiance warms like embrace of a friend And makes me aware of how lucky I am So many on earth know more sorrow by far And don’t have the notion to look at a star So many downtrodden more cheerful than I So glorious the starlight that captures my eye I’ll not beg a wish or a dream any more I will cherish my life more than ever before Little star, you have twinkled away bitter sorrow Please come back and light up my midnight tomorrow Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (edited 07-03-2001).] |

...and all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,...("sea fever", john masefield) Lovely flowing poem Liz There is society where none intrudes, by the deep sea, and music in its roar. |

OK, all you stargazers, I'll let you borrow my star, but please put it back in the same place so I can find it again. And thank you kindly for your lovely comments I'll be sure to tell a star Liz |

LizzieLove~ You took a little star thought and hung it way up high Twinkling with such merriment to surely catch the eye There it is reflecting off the dish of moon You know ... the one that 'ran away with the spoon' ! ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |
