The Paraeducator

I am the Paraeducator
Who works within your school
My job is never-ending
Here are the things I do

I hold a hand or wipe a nose
I guide them through their day
I meet them in the morning
And listen to what they say

I listen to their reading
Help them with their math
Social Studies, and Science
English, and every class

I am on the line of fire
All week, day in, day out
No wonder I often get headaches
That make me want to shout

I’m the first to hear their laughter
The first to hear their woes
Though when things happen in the system
I’m usually the last to know

But here I stand their buffer
Between the world and them
To help them make the choices
That are the best for them

So if you chance to meet me
Don’t just pass me by
If you just can’t think of what to say
At least greet me with a smile

Extremely well said Lisa.  I rank paraeducators and school bus drivers very high on my list of unsung (unseen except as an afterthought by most) hero's.  Proud to bow to you...

Lisa, I have a dear friend who does what you do, for learning disabled children.  I admire her very much, for her job is NOT easy!

So when I pass you?  Not only a smile, but a big HUG as well!

Lisa - And most importantly - you are the first to see and hear many of the things those children will do.  And they say there aren't any benefits in your field!  Way to go, lady.

I like the way your rhythm held constant throughout the poem, and the way you developed the subject and concluded the message.  Good work.

jwesley: thank you for the praise we all get little enough of it in any job. Most appreciated.

Sunshine: it is hard work and often rewarding but sometimes we get so bogged down with the little thing. The hug means alot. Thank you.

LngJhn Ag: You are right about the rewards. ANd thank you for the critique. I was so mad when I wrote this I was unsure of it.

Lisa - Some advice not sought in advance, but given with all sincerity.  When you feel angry, or sad, or happy, or emotional in any other shade, that's a wonderful time to write what you feel.  The extra energy wil pour out of you onto the page and will dance in every line.  Let it go, lady.  Your writing is terrific.
