Rewrite:

   I'm Gonna Eat Some Crow

Herds and herds of nasty birds
Fly about my garden.
They eat and eat and then they turd
And never ask my pardon.

Black birds, starlings and crows
Pick about my bedings.
Black birds strut and crows crow and the
Starlings are not darlings.

I worked hard, put in special toil
Special food, special good,
Even worms to loosen the soil.
Did as much as I could.

But herds of nasty birds in spoil
Still bend my flower stems
And pull the worms out of the soil
And promptly swallow them.

I'll either bake a black bird mob
Or make a crow kabab.

Print the picture from Marge's "better believe it buster" poem and make a scarecrow from it. Enjoyed.

Maybe if you got friendly with the birds - you could have a party.  They are the biggest bunch of pests - eating everything in site.  I really enjoyed your writing - great job.

four and twenty blackbirds
were served up in Sy's pie
and those little starlings,
never made it, darling...
rapacious crows, quite a few?
they ended up good eating stew...

So your garden looks like Hitchcock brought all his birds
But did Poe eat crow ... now thats absurd!!!
Whats the harm ... let them do all your vegy pickin'
Forget about those magpies ... I'd rather have chicken

this place is going to the birds ...

Sy - If you tell ANYBODY what I'm about to write, I'll consider it the most heinous act of betrayal!  Get yoursel some cats!  (Wait, Long John!  You CAN save some face here!)  And, Sy, if those cats don't do their job, you have them for dessert!

Seymour~
Takes an old crow to know
Just how fast to fly
to gauge when to drop the plop ..
right on Farmer Sy

Darlin' if you're gardening
you don't want CATS about
For they deposit into the ground
that stuff ya' don't want around !

LOL @ RSWells !

Love your playful cawing !

Seymour, I know your frustration... but believe me, things could be worse! LOL. I used to have a yard and a beautiful garden... and a woodpecker who liked to sample every tomato!!! The blue jays were bad enough... but a few rat-a-tat-tats and from that woodpecker and all I had left were tears. *S*

By the way... being blonde, forgetful, and opinionated, I end up "eating crow" quite often... I'll be glad to send you some recipes??? LOL Great poem!!

If crows can manage to distress
A cherished friend like Sy
I'd catch four and twenty blackbirds
And I'd bake them in a pie

If Balledeer cannot control
This rude and carefree pest
I'll come down, as the crow flies
And clean up your little nest

Love ya,
Liz

Sy,
just remember if you get rid of the birds there is nothing to stop the bugs eating everything in sight! Clever poem.

BTW My happyish persona poem is done. It's called fifteen minutes.

this is so very delightfully written, Sy, you do have fun with language and life...I have to admit one thing, I really was expecting, given the flavor of the piece, to find you had used the term for a group of crows, a 'murder,' in this piece, especially near the closing.

I'd like to share this one with some friends of mine, cuz even though they're bird lovers, they do share a disdain for the quantity of crows that strut and fly about here. I'm sure they'd get great pleasure in reading this one.
