My neighbor was talking of her childhood one day and I loved this story so much I had to write it for her... Margie and Bobbie Two little kids swinging in the trees Mussed up hair, scuffed up knees Back and forth the saplings sway They play this game most every day “Sissy, Sissy, Stop!” he cries “I’ve got a game that we could try.” “I’ll hold your tree and you hold mine, We’ll swing together and have a good time.” “Hang on tight here we go, Make it sway to and fro.” Suddenly a tree slips out Down they go with a shout He’s on top she breaks his fall As they land on the old stone wall He puts his knees in her guts Then asks” Are you getting up?” Glasses bent, gasping for air Needles and pitch in her hair Down the field hand in hand To show Mother they can, still stand |
