Almost Heaven... |

They say that up in heaven, ...streets are paved with gold, Grand mansions float on silver clouds, ...at least so, I've been told. I disagree, I'll tell you why, ...although I've never been, I even doubt, that when I die, ...that God will let me in. I've done some ruminating, ...what's past those pearly gates, What splendored realm in heaven's high, ...for mortal man awaits. If heaven is nirvana, ...our home forevermore, What use is there for golden streets, ...for silver clouds galore? I'd sooner walk on spring's first grass, ...beside a prairie stream, Lie beneath oak's canopy, ...protected from sun's beam. A gentle breeze of summer, ...to whisper in my ear, Amongst the feral creatures, ...'mid nature's green revere. Now that I think, I must confess, ...to heaven I oft go, Upon the plains of Kansas, ...in heaven's preview show. |

Tim, as the others said spot on, for me heaevn is the green pastures that surround my house, but with a clear blue sky which we don't get very often. Really enjoyed this poem. "Like Sand underneath the snow, I make you mine." Kristin Hersh |
