Scenes from my dreams Flash before me Projected on the screen of my mind Once again a melancholy movie With an ending of the tragic kind. I'm watching it without you The empty seat by me Makes me think about you And how I hoped it would be... Promise me that in my next life You will love me as much as I love you now Give me your Word of Honor So I can go on with this life somehow... Separate lives were brought close together Fused by music flowing from the heart Still, a wall remains in between us One I've tried my best to break apart... I've never loved somebody The way that I love you But things don't always work out The way you'd like them to... Promise me that in my next life You will love me as much as I love you now Give me your Word of Honor So I can go on with this life somehow... The film is almost over As is my dream sublime And just like Richard Collier, My love's somewhere in time... I'm not looking forward to the sorrow Of living life without you by my side I'd gladly trade today for tomorrow If you agreed to be my loving bride... I sense the distance in your voice Despite your tight embrace I strive to comprehend your choice As I stare into your face... Promise me that in my next life You will love me as much as I love you now Give me your Word of Honor So I can go on with this life somehow... Mark, This is SO intensely captivating and beautiful. And your reference to Richard Collier from "Somewhere in Time" just endears me to your writing even more. That is one of my all time favorite movies, and any man who makes a reference to that magical film, should never have an empty seat next to him. You are such a talented writer, and your heart reaches out and touches the reader with every word that you write. Keep amazing us all with your exquisite gifts, and never stop dreaming... Elise |

Oh Mark, you have done it this time. Everyone that loves that movie and loves the soul of Richard Collier, has just fallen in love with you and your writing. ELise perfectly said my thoughts about this. So few men even know of the movie, or think that way. Your somewhere in time love will come back to you, I'm sure. If not this life, than the next. Sunshine: thank you kindly for reading and replying. "Somewhere In Time" is my second favorite movie, next only to "Cinema Paradiso". If you haven't seen this Italian film, you truly haven't experienced the apex of film-making. Voiceless: I thank you too for reading and responding. I'm glad you enjoyed the set-up of this poem. This was an example of inspiration channeled through a chosen metaphor -- one of cinema. Thank you, Marge, for taking a moment to read this and to reply. "Cinematography" is exactly the tool I pictured when writing this one. Elise: I am down-right humbled and grinning -- your reply was very moving and sincerely appreciated and inspiring -- to know that my work might have such an effect on even one person is pure fuel to stoke the creative fires. As I just mentioned to Sunshine: S.I.T. is my 2nd favorite movie of all time... if you haven't checked out "Cinema Paradiso" yet... SPRINT! Don't just run to your local video store and rent it! This, for me, is the penultimate accomplishment of human art that I can think of in terms of topics, story, acting, directing, editing, music, and cinematography. ALL films, in my book are relative to this one. In terms of poetry... keep watching -- I've got many more for you. Without dreaming, why stay awake? -MVS "If you think you know it all, you have a lot to learn." |

Sandra... really??? I guess I'm a die-hard romantic born into the wrong era... A soul must be fed in addition to the mind and body. Beauty, Love, Truth, Music, and Poetry are all the food my soul needs to be happy. Thank you, as always, for taking a moment to read, ponder, and reply. Sunshine: there's more poetry to come... -MVS "If you think you know it all, you have a lot to learn." |
