You, Me, and Him

took time out for me
today
you tagged along
anyway
welcomed  thoughts
while the bookstore
beckoned

cheap books cheap books

for sale

I wondered at those
authors’ fire
kilned hot to prove
as words
poured lovingly
went warm
into each phrase
and line in forming
crystal memories

cheap, indeed!  No, no
not hardly

but I walked in anyway
and yes, the offerings
of sale
were something that
would not grace
my shelves, so I went for
the classics

but you were one step
ahead of me
so I followed those
thoughts of you
and found

Him

wondered aloud
if you had this
last book
he left unfinished
then picked up by others
as speculators hypothesized

would he have published
this…..

never mind….

he is the author
you have so admired
and I know you
are thereby inspired

so take this small gift
of worn page
and wrapper

and query…

is a gift of something old
but new to us
that which should be wrapped afresh
in foil and ribbon,
that we would not realize
the preciousness of something old,
sent
first class?

I received an old book of poetry in the mail from a mutual friend.  I think that you would like it.  It arrived in a package with flowers she'd picked from her yard.  Got any ideas who this friend is?    A nice poem, Decaflame.  I love old book stores.  Heck, I love old books!
